Beautiful Lyrical Moves

Updated: Feb 12, 2022

as i'm sure many of you know, my strongest style is lyrical, so this post is devoted to teaching you guys some of my favorite lyrical moves, as well as showing off my two specialties: the pirouette arabesque and the pique swan.

lyrical turns (AKA a la secondes)

these are extremely cool and satisfying to watch. they're kind of like fouettes, but you never close your foot into passe. its best to practice these wearing jazz or turn shoes, as they have the best level of traction.

shoulder roll

shoulder rolls are one of those tricks that look so difficult, but are actually very easy. first, just sit on the ground and then roll backwards, like a backwards sumersault, but stay on your shoulder; slightly to the side. these move can add something new and exciting to your average cheoragraphy, which is why a lot of the dances we do at Luxia involve this trick. it can even be considered acro!

illusion-splits

this super cool trick is sure to wow judges or your parents. first start with a normal illusion. once you have that in the bag, practice your splits. its best to practice the side of the splits of the leg that is on the ground, but there is a variation of the type of where the leg in the air slides down. then, just add it all together! try not to get discouraged; and remember; you can always request a lyrical or acro private to practice this trick!

moonrise turn

this trick is one that i invented myself. its a sequence of difficult-looking tricks to make one, relatively easy combination, and it is one of the things we almost always practice during lyrical class. it starts with a single pirouette, transitions smoothly into an illusion, into the splits (see above) and then finished with a straight-legged shoulder roll (also see above). i only have two tips for learning this combination; always do it seprately first, (its nearly impossible to do otherwise) and never give up. it may seem hard, but once you can do it with ease, you think back and say to yourself: "How was this ever hard?“

now for my specialties, what you have to remember is that these aren't thing only i can do; they're things everyone can do. so keep trying; i believe in you.
